Overview

Our client, a highly regarded commercial law firm based in Belfast, is seeking a Solicitor or Associate to lead their expanding Property Recoveries team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist litigation practice with a strong reputation for client service and results across insurance and property litigation.

The successful candidate will manage their own caseload and supervise a small team, contributing to operational and financial performance while acting as a key client liaison. The firm is open to applications from ambitious solicitors who may not have direct property damage experience but demonstrate strong litigation expertise and a desire to lead.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Case Management

  • Manage a caseload of recovery, defence, and indemnity claims (pre-litigated and litigated).
  • Devise case strategies that balance technical accuracy with commercial outcomes.
  • Ensure files progress efficiently to repudiation or settlement and are closed promptly.
  • Adhere to internal SLAs, KPIs, and client reporting requirements.
  • Ensure timely billing and collection of WIP/disbursements.
  • Maintain accurate records and support reporting through effective MI.

Team Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor two team members; support onboarding and performance reviews.
  • Motivate and engage the team, promote wellbeing, and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Assist in managing workloads and ensuring procedural documentation remains current.
  • Conduct absence management and return-to-work procedures where required.

Client Engagement & Commercial Focus

  • Communicate regularly with clients and provide commercially focused advice.
  • Attend client meetings (in-person or virtual) and act as a firm ambassador.
  • Support the Team Partner in business development activities and strategy delivery.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with firm and client protocols, regulatory standards, and risk policies.
  • Escalate potential issues promptly to management as needed.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor in Northern Ireland (or England & Wales with NI practice rights).
  • Experience in property damage, subrogation, or general insurance litigation desirable.
  • Previous supervisory or mentoring experience (or strong interest in team leadership).
  • Strong commercial awareness and client service ethic.
  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with case management systems preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and capable of building trusted client relationships.
