Overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious Solicitor to join a specialist Property Recoveries team in Belfast.

The team acts predominantly on behalf of insurers and a wide range of commercial organisations, providing practical and commercially focused advice across property damage and recovery matters.

The caseload will cover a range of areas, including:

  • Subrogated property claims, including recovery of repair costs following damage to commercial and residential properties and motor vehicles
  • Uninsured loss recoveries
  • Recovery of overpayments and duplicate payments
  • Property damage defence
  • Property damage indemnity

Previous property damage experience would be beneficial but is not essential. Applications are welcomed from enthusiastic Northern Ireland qualified Solicitors with a litigation background who are interested in developing their career within this specialist area.

Key Responsibilities

The successful Solicitor will manage their own caseload of pre-litigated and litigated recovery, defence and indemnity matters, while also supporting the wider team and supervising junior colleagues.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a varied caseload from initial instruction through to settlement or conclusion
  • Developing clear and commercially focused case strategies
  • Applying appropriate technical expertise and relevant case law
  • Ensuring compliance with internal and client SLAs, KPIs and protocols
  • Meeting agreed chargeable time and financial targets
  • Ensuring prompt billing and collection of WIP and disbursements
  • Providing accurate and timely management information
  • Identifying and managing risk and compliance issues throughout the lifecycle of each case
  • Supporting and supervising junior colleagues, including paralegals and trainee solicitors
  • Building strong relationships with clients and acting as an ambassador for the firm
  • Supporting business development and client relationship initiatives
  • Working closely with the Team Manager and Partner to support the continued development of the practice

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor in Northern Ireland
  • Ideally some previous experience within property damage, recoveries or litigation
  • A genuine interest in developing technical knowledge of property damage investigations
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to take a practical approach to claims and settlement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team
  • Confidence in supporting and supervising junior colleagues
  • Comfortable engaging directly with clients, both in person and virtually
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office; previous experience of a case management system would be advantageous
