Overview
Our client in Belfast City Centre, is seeking a Legal Accounts Assistant to join their busy Finance team. This is a key support role within the firm, responsible for ensuring the smooth and accurate processing of client and office financial transactions. Working closely with the Company Accountant and Finance Partner, you will play an important part in maintaining compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across all legal accounting functions. This is a part-time, primarily office-based role offering flexibility and strong benefits within a professional legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
Receipts & Bank Reconciliation
- Monitor bank accounts daily and identify incoming funds
- Allocate and record electronic receipts and cheques accurately
- Prepare and process daily bank lodgements
- Update and reconcile lodgements book against accounting system
- Process client transfers relating to bill payments
Payments & Authorisations
- Process daily payment requests (electronic and cheque)
- Ensure correct classification of office vs client payments
- Ensure compliance with AML, authorisation and cyber security protocols
- Process authorised payments via online banking
- Support credit control processes
Billing & Fee Management
- Assist in reviewing and processing fee invoices
- Allocate time recorded against billed fees
- Ensure correct capture and billing of disbursements
- Allocate payments against outstanding invoices
- Support write-off of approved irrecoverable time
Client & Purchase Ledger
- Manage client ledger queries and financial reconciliations
- Process and post approved purchase invoices
- Reconcile creditor statements monthly
- Manage supplier payments
- Use online account systems (e.g. registry/search platforms)
Cash, Expenses & Reporting
- Manage petty cash and reconciliations
- Process staff expense claims
- Assist with month-end and year-end reporting
- Support Law Society inspections and external audits
Additional Duties
- Provide holiday and sickness cover for senior bookkeeper when required
Essential Skills and Experience
- 1 year’s experience in a finance or accounts role
- Third level qualification or book-keeping qualification (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong communication skills
- High level of confidentiality
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook

- Hourly rate: £14 – £14.50 (depending on experience and qualifications)
- 20–25 hours per week (Monday to Friday, approx. 10am–4pm, 1-hour unpaid lunch)
